Well, we’re only three days away from Christmas, and I’m in my typical M.O. Haven’t gotten a damm thing for anyone yet, but I always pull through in the clutch. The list is pretty short so it makes it easier. I have a lot more free time on my hands today though. I was supposed to be shooting a calendar that I didn’t especially believe would actually happen anyway. I can sniff out fake/fraud situations better than anyone I know. People often perceive it as being negative, but I unfortunately know things I’d rather sometimes not know. It’s a pretty sound indicator when I get text messages vs calls as time draws closer to the point of action, and that’s exactly what has played out with this standup situation. Why do people feel more inspired to front like they’re going to do something because they’ve seen someone else do it? I don’t know if it was the cost she was about to incur, or cold feet or what, but Miss Standup For The Day has exhausted her passes with me……Which brings me to today’s real focus.
Going to start something new here at SB. I’ve had so many people tell me that they log onto the site everyday over the years, and now I’m giving more of you a reason to do so. Been wanting to do it for awhile, but I have had design issues and headscratchers on how to make this work; but as I sat here with the irritation wearing off from being lied to yet again about a damn photoshoot that wasn’t really motivating me to the point of creativity, the lightbulb went off. Ladies and Gentlemen, presenting the PHOTO OF THE DAY. I’m hand picking some of MY faves, be it the hot girl, or the hot concept– so you will clearly get a visual of what I think is worthy of a 24 hour (give or take) tribute.
Every year when December rolls around, you can always count on the fact that we’ll turn up the heat. We’ve been bringing you summer heat all year long for almost six years now - it’s not an option anymore, tis our DUTY.
If you haven’t been brought up to speed, we just launched the most anticipated comeback model in urban model history with a brand new website….
She’s coming full speed with a new website, calendar (I shot it…..) and the dvd…….brings tears to my eyes (happy tears) just thinking about it - you’re going to LOVE it. Make sure you become a part of a new era and support her cause, ’cause she’s about to break the game all the way down.
Our resident Rabbit, AKA SuperBunny AKA Rabbit akamissrabbit.com also has a very well put together calendar - don’t miss “Classic Beauty”, her pinup style tribute calendar. This project is definitely a well thought out, extremely put together masterpiece calendar. It doesn’t hurt at all that I shot it….
I cannot leave out my girl Covagirl, who produced her sophomore calendar for 2009 also entitled “A Taste of Covagirl.” Make sure you get your copy also atwww.covagirl.com Oh….and just in case you were wondering……I sorta shot this one too……
Make sure you get a copy, get all three, you no doubt have a friend who would REALLY love these for Christmas. They are also prison friendly, and from the way all of these Black sports stars keep running into trouble, we’ll be getting quite a few more copies of our projects out to these institutions.
By the way - we’re about to mash the gas on our project of the century, so fasten your seatbelts. Coming ANY MINUTE NOW……….
Woke up this morning to a nice BRISK Houston day. For lots of people, that’s a nice change of pace. They say different strokes for different folks and all that, but let me tell you - the cold weather is NOT for me. That’s why I haven’t left Houston in all these years! For all those aspiring models out there who feel like you’ve got to go put a bikini on and romp around in 10 degree weather to be considered official, I say “F” that.” I’ll be the first to admit that I “Girl up” when it gets cold. I got that expression from my cousin Cornelius when we were kids, and it means to get sensitive, or to not be able to handle the situation with the best poise and temperment. I will NOT be shooting you in subzero, or even 50 above zero in the cold. ALL your pictures will be blurry, even if I’m bundled up in a full length coat, hat and boots. Nose running, icy feet, cold hands….I just turned the thermostat up thinking about that! I love visiting my friends up north, but not in the winter time. So I sit here with my hot chocolate and whipped cream, listening to old John Legend’s “Ordinary People” (we all are, you know) and keeping my ass warm over here. I’m really feeling that new “Green Light” track featuring Andre 3000 from John Legend too, that’s hot.
Not to worry about all that cold stuff around here, our season actually heats up a little bit more intensely around this time of year. Our anniversary mark is December 25th, and as many of you know, we’ve consistently published a calendar every year for the past four years. I’m of mixed sentiment to say that the tradition has stopped this year. As we progressed toward the middle of the year, there were several reasons that pushed away from what would have been a “5 in a row” run for SB calendars. Although we’ve produced some amazing new models, I didn’t want to put out a lackluster project that only had a handful of standouts. Amazing things are on the doorstep though, and they’re knocking loudly. I can’t wait to unveil the new direction that we’re going to you, it’s about two weeks out and many of you already have the inside scoop. If you don’t, just sit tight, it’s so very worth the wait………………………shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.
If you’re in Houston tonight, come out and meet and greet Rabbit along with NBA Legend Nick Van Exel and other stars from the Houston Rockets and the New Orleans Hornets tonight at Grooves:
Even as a child, I’ve always been mindful of the liberties that we have here in the US that other countries don’t have, and I’ve been happy to be a US Citizen. It still remains without question in my mind that we live in the greatest nation in the world. It was not until a few hours ago though that I have ever truly felt PROUD to be an American. We’ve demonstrated that we’re able to polarize and make a difference through our great democracy, and we’ve done it in a fashion never before done. As I stated in an earlier blog, this isn’t about a Black man taking office and just sitting on his ass. I truly believe that we’ve put a leader in place that will LEAD.
I watched the celebrations and the jubilation on multiple channels, and the one thing that kept going through my minds was, “do these people realize the arduous road that is in front of us?” I also wondered as I sat with my 17 year old daughter and watched children in various audiences, if they fully realized just how far we’ve come as a nation, as a culture. The mountain has been moved, history has been made, and we are living it right now. So many of our ancestors fought, bled and died horrible deaths for this day. Yes, I cried. I shouted. I laughed. Didn’t you?
Now that we’ve made this big change in our world, we’ve got to continue to be a country of change. The Bush administration has had such a far reaching impact that who knows how long it will take to really give us a sense of being where we should be, but we’ve taken the right step. We’ve stopped the bleeding.
I have to now say something that I haven’t said before, but I’m happy to say it now. I’m SO glad that the man who looks like me (I have a nephew who looks just like President Elect Obama) has so much poise. I’m so happy that his family looks so much like mine. I am 100% certain that this man is fully prepared to embrace his role as not only president of the United States, but he’s now the biggest role model in the world, the RIGHT role model.
If you tuned into the presidential debate last night, I believe you should be a LOT more clear cut on your choice for who you want as the leader of our nation for the next four years. I’ve been pretty sure for awhile now, but the debate in and of itself showed how poised, cool and intuitive Barak Obama is, and I have far more confidence in his abilities than I do in John McCain’s leadership abilities. John McCain attacked continuously like a bird of prey, but Obama was teflon, and he won the debate in my opinion, and it’s been the case in every debate so far. It doesn’t so much matter to me that I see a man whose skin looks like mine, I want to know that we’re giving ourselves some semblance of hope for not only our generation, but for the next generations to come, and I believe strongly that if we allow John McCain into office, we’re going to be more or less in the same trajectory that George W has initiated. We are a country in crisis, whether you feel it or not. Everyone runs around jokingly saying “we’re in a recession,” and not fully understanding where it could potentially take us.
So many people are going to make their way into a polling place on November 7th and push some buttons, not based on anything other than race/gender of the candidates, and that is a sad sad truth. I’m for the Black man (half Black, or whatever you want to say about him), not because he’s the Black man, but because I believe that when a critical decision is going to come down, he’ll make the best decision for whatever that cause is. I am asking each and every one of you reading this to FIND THE REASONS to choose your candidate, don’t let any other reason drive you to make a decision. November 7th 2008 is probably the most important day in my history on this earth in regard to what I can do to help navigate our future, you should feel the same way. That being said, how could you either (a) sit at home and “let everyone else make it happen”, (b) vote blindly without knowing either candidate’s stand on the serious issues that will face them starting day one in office, or (c) play into the race card? If a White dude is going to help secure the blessings of liberty for my grandchildren and beyond, you bet your ass I’m going with the White man, but I’m not getting that warm and fuzzy about Senator McCain. DO YOUR HOMEWORK people.
We’ve made it through the storm out here in Houston TX, Ike was a bad bad boy. Thank you to everyone who sent out well wishes and prayers, and fortunately we’re still intact. There are however still hundreds of thousands of Houstonians without power, and it’s been 14 days since hurricane Ike passed through the city, so keep sending the prayers for those families and individuals still dealing with adversities, and especially our hearts go out to any and everyone who lost anything in this disaster, particularly the coastal city of Galveston.
It’s been said that after the darkest night comes the brightest day, and I’m a believer in that sentiment. I feel good in saying that this isn’t exactly the darkest period in any sense for me right now, but I know that some of my staff and peers are going through some things, so to you guys I say “the brightest days are in front of us.” We’ve held it down for each other for a very substantial period of time, and it’s very clear to me that the sun is projecting strongly onto the horizon, so get your stunna shades ready.
I’ll be in Miami from October 1-4th, and you know that every time I come back from Miami there are some very interesting events to report. I can’t wait. Phoenix, you’re back on deck October 9th-11th, and LA, you’re up next at the end of the month, so get ready, your boy is coming with a serious intent to cause serious damage. But don’t worry, the damage I cause is the kind of damage that you can (and definitely hope to) deal with quite nicely.
It’s been 7 years, but it really doesn’t seem like it at all. We all need to stop and remember the tragedy that changed the world back in 2001, and say a prayer for the families and friends who lost loved ones in such a tragic way.
I’m back from my Phoenix expedition, and what an adventure it was. I did manage to pop off some very unique shots that you can’t see just yet, but they are impressive, I assure you. What wasn’t impressive was the heat. I thought we had it rough here in Houston because we’ve got humidity. It’s straight up dry heat out in Phoenix. After that expereience, I’ll take humidity over dry heat ANY day. My body is still adjusting to the heat, the time change and the pace. Things move in slow motion in Phoenix. No offense to the Phoenicians (am I even close with that?) who were more than hospitable - thank you Arizona Grand Resort too, by the way. I’m just saying, I’m working on getting my moms out there for a visit because of the serenity, and the surreal beauty of the area. We don’t see all that out here. Mountains, cactuses/cactai - I’m having too much trouble with my words in reference to this trip without pulling out a Thesaurus, so I’m going to slide right on by the Phoenix trip. Miami, get ready October 1st through 4th. I’ve hand picked 5 but there will be 2 more added to the roster that will make some real waves here.
We’ve just updated the site with a lovely and alluring diva - be sure to check Tatianna’s (also known as Lady Godiva) previews. They’re sure to do big numbers here, and rumor has it that she’s headed this way to give you a lot more to look at before the Chicago cold sets in. Now I’ll probably opt to take that dry ass heat in Pheonix vs that ass whipping wind in Chicago, but the chocolate sisters in Chi are definitely giving Phoenix a bit of a challenge. Enjoy the new images.
